Hire A Somm Wine Tasting Series at Blue Grouse Winery
"Intro to styles" Wine 101
In this class we will do an overview of tasting techniques and then go over a variety of styles of wines including sparkling, white, light red, fuller bodied red and sweet wine.
The tasting will include wines from the Cowichan Valley as well as International Wines. The goal with this class is to give a good overview of wine styles, which grapes fit into which categories, help you sort through all the options and navigate your own search for your favourites.
JUNE 24 SATURDAY
What is does Organic/Sustainable/Natural/Biodynamic/
Vegan mean in the world of wine?
Walk through what all of these terms refer to in regards to wine and sample different options.
Learn about the different challenges wine producers face and learn about the different tools wineries use to create the wines we drink..
This class will help you understand all the different terms and also help you navigate the landscape when looking for the wine that fits your expectations.
Taste a selection of Natural Wine, Organic Wine, Biodynamic etc....
JULY 22 SATURDAY
New World wines verses Old World wines
Showcase a line up of new world wines including Cowichan wines and line them up against their old world counter parts.
In this class we will compare European wines with wines from other areas in the world. We will discuss things like terroir, climate, style and trends.
Goal with this class would be to explain the difference between the two, how things sometimes get crossed depending on winemaking and climate and learning to identify the difference.
AUG 26 SATURDAY
Best of BC and how they work with food
Is this class we will feature a selection of award winning wines from the 6 different regions of British Columbia and finish the class with a food and wine pairing component.
We will review the 6 different regions around the province including Vancouver Island and seeing the quality and variety our province produces.
Additionally we will include a food and wine pairing portion to the tasting using salt, sugar, citrus, protein and spice and see the affects it has on perceived sweetness, acidity, tannins and spiciness In the wines.
